π‘οΈ East African Anti-Scamming Initiative
Protecting Generosity. Strengthening Trust.
Why We Exist
Every year, thousands of kind-hearted people lose money, time, and trust to fraudulent individuals or fake organizations pretending to do good across East Africa.
These scams hurt everyone: the donors who want to help, the communities who depend on support, and the many honest local organizations whose credibility gets damaged.
The East African Anti-Scamming Initiative (EAASI) was born out of real experiences β hard lessons learned by the team behind Umoja Greenlands after encountering multiple scam attempts.
We created this platform so others donβt have to go through the same.
What We Do
Investigate & Publish
We research, verify, and share information about scams, fake NGOs, and impersonators operating across East Africa.
Each published case includes context, evidence, and review status β from Allegation to Cleared.
Educate & Prevent
We publish practical guides and warning signs to help donors, volunteers, and organizations recognize and avoid scams.
Report & Collaborate
We invite everyone to share verified information and report suspected scams safely through our Report a Scam form.
Recognize the Red Flags
Requests for βurgentβ mobile money transfers
Personal accounts instead of official organization accounts
Fake or mismatched registration documents
Promises without proof or deliverables
Avoidance of video calls or verifiable meetings
Cloned websites or reused proposal texts
If youβve encountered any of these, pause and verify before sending funds or signing agreements.
Scammers Database
Our Scammers Database is an evolving, community-driven directory of reported cases across East Africa.
Each listing shows:
-
Case status (Allegation, Under Review, Substantiated, or Cleared)
-
Modus operandi (how the scam worked)
-
Region and evidence summary
-
Guidance on what to do if contacted
We currently list the first two verified reports β Jacob and Joe β as ongoing reviews, with evidence under examination.
More cases will be added as our verification expands.
Join the Effort
This initiative is built for transparency, protection, and education β not punishment.
We believe that exposing dishonest practices allows integrity to rise and genuine initiatives to flourish.
